A Control Test is a biological indicator (BI) taken from the same lot as a test BI, which is purposely left unexposed to a sterilization cycle and then incubated showing spore growth which verifies the viability of the test BI. This also verifies that both the control BI and the test BI didn’t come in contact with any  microbicidal process during mail time, to and from the lab.

ATS, Inc. does in-office control tests on each lot of spore tests we send out to customers.  We also offer control tests with all of our third-party testing programs.  This best practice is also recommended as by the CDC, The Joint Commission and AAMI.
